I came across Nuno and Teresa’s details through an old teacher of mine whom I greatly respect, and decided to take a lesson during my next visit to Portugal, as they came highly recommended, and were brilliantly located. This is how I started taking lessons with Nuno in 2016.
Although taking lessons on the wonderful horses that Nuno and Teresa had available was great and really brought my riding along, it quickly became clear that my lifelong dream to own my own horse would now be within reach, with their support. From the lessons with Nuno and discussions with Teresa, they quickly had an idea of what type of Lusitano I was interested in. It didn’t take them long on my next visit, they had my dream horse in the stables for me to try. It was love at first sight (and ride!) and by the end of the holidays, Bo, a six year old stallion, was mine!
They helped guide me through the whole process of vetting and purchasing, which was wonderful as I had no idea of what would be required. Their competence and experience really ensured that the whole process progressed smoothly, and gave me that extra confidence when making this big decision.
Bo stayed with Teresa and Nuno to further his education, and for me to train with him on my visits.
During my absences from Portugal I am regularly updated, with videos and feedback, and occasional skype sessions, so that Bo is never far away, and I am able to participate in his evolution.
Bo is in fantastic hands. It is now two years later and Bo has come so far and is starting to mature. He is being trained without being pushed too quickly, meaning that he really enjoys working and showing off what he can do. He is also not schooled every day, but instead gets taken on hacks various times a week, or left to relax in his paddock. My lessons are always fun and I am learning so much from him. It is a privilege to work with and learn from Nuno: not only is he highly experienced; he is also very kind, gentle and patient.
Sometimes we also go on beautiful hacks throughout the surrounding countryside. Bo is handled and taken care of in a loving manner; Teresa and Nuno treat him as one of their own. He is also well taken care of by Nuno the vet/farrier/dentist – all rolled in to one. One day, I hope to bring Bo closer to where I live (or if I win the lottery, I move to Portugal!), but at this moment, having Bo with Teresa and Nuno is such a wonderful solution, and I can rest easy, knowing that he is receiving a holistic training and is being lovingly taken care of.
