Mindfulness Series: You Are Your Own Wifi

I heard a phrase recently that caught my attention: “You are your own wifi.”

At first it sounded playful. But the more I thought about it, the more true it felt.

Science shows that our thoughts are not locked inside our heads. Brainwaves can be measured from outside the skull, using magnets that never touch us. We are transmitters and receivers. Our thoughts ripple outward.

Carl Jung described the collective unconscious — a shared memory bank of humanity’s archetypes, symbols, and stories. In modern language, you might call it the “cloud.” Just as your phone connects to wifi, your mind connects into that wider field.

Researchers have even tried to photograph energy fields around living beings. Kirlian photography revealed glowing coronas around fingertips and leaves. In one famous experiment, even after a leaf was cut, its missing outline still appeared in the photo — as if the energy of the whole leaf remained. Science debates how to interpret this, but the symbolism is powerful: life radiates beyond its physical edges.

Other studies suggest that intention shapes form. Plants appear to grow more strongly when spoken to kindly. Masaru Emoto’s experiments showed that water crystals exposed to love and gratitude froze into beautiful patterns, while those exposed to anger fractured into chaos. Whether or not every experiment is perfect, the message is clear: intention matters. Energy becomes form.

And then there is the heart. Research from the HeartMath Institute shows that the human heart emits a measurable electromagnetic field that can extend several feet beyond the body. When we are calm and coherent, that field is ordered — and those around us can entrain with it.

Horses respond to this instantly. They are exquisitely sensitive to the state of our nervous systems. When our heart rhythm is jagged, anxious, or angry, the horse feels it. When our heart is steady, open, and coherent, the horse softens and connects.

This is why mindfulness with horses is so powerful. It is not only about techniques or exercises, but about the energy we bring into the relationship. You are your own wifi. Your horse is too. Connection happens when both signals are clear, coherent, and tuned together.

So perhaps the practice of our time is simple: care for your inner wifi. Maintain it through meditation, breath, and presence. Tune it with kindness and patience. Direct it consciously toward harmony. Because when you broadcast clearly, your horse will receive clearly — and in that space, true partnership is born.
